Fitquest
Fitquest is a portable gaming and wellbeing accessory, designed to combat Diversion or 'Gaming' Disorder. The three-part design features a tracking ring to monitor the users physical stats, a USB stick that tracks usage data from the gaming console, and a holder to keep both together when travelling.
Gaming has become a popular and widely accepted mode of recreation among modern generations . With rapidly evolving technology and the evolution of different modes and media of gaming interface, gaming has become inclusive of varied interests and preferences ranging from beauty and grooming to military war like environments. From casual mobile games to immersive, storyboard driven experiences, some even creating an entire ecosystem of storylines (multiverse), gaming has become an engaging and challenging pastime, even leading to extreme addictive behavioural tendencies.
However, excessive gaming can lead to negative effects. One of the most significant and obvious risks is gaming addiction. Gaming addiction is a recognised disorder that can result in social isolation, lack of physical activity, and a decline in overall well-being. To prevent addiction and other related problems, it's essential to establish a healthy balance between gaming and other activities. It's also essential for parents and guardians to monitor their children's gaming behaviour and ensure they are not spending excessive amounts of time playing games
Although recognised as a locality of clinical interest, the Diagnostic and applied mathematics Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) suggests that additional clinical analysis is needed before diversion disorder is diagnosed.
Some of the Symptoms of diversion disorder are:
Vision problems
Musculoskeletal issues
Obesity
Seizures (Epileptic)
The project aimed to improve time-management of the condition using a holistic, psychological and physiological approach, for all ages. The solution helps individuals become more aware of their own body, taking ownership of their habits to maintain balance within their life.
Hexmate
Winter months can be challenging for older people, especially those with pre-existing medical conditions which are aggravated by temperature Fluctuations. This project provides solutions for tackling winter sickness in the senior age group in an accessible and affordable way. The Association for Conservation of Energy report (2013) states that poor insulation in houses could be a primary cause of winter sickness. While preventive solutions exist, the risk of winter sickness is increasing due to climate change. Hexmate's design is modular and modern, using the technology of TENS and Heat fomentation for immediate relief. Regulated heating controls are integrated within the device itself and are easy to use for all age groups. The modular form is easy to heat and can be used anywhere on the body. The device is attached using the magnetic fixture, making it versatile enough to fit anywhere.
