This project was initially chosen due to my own personal passion for the sport; knowing the community gave me an initial view of the sport and where the project could potentially go. Golf has historically been known to be associated with elitism and exclusivity, which has led to the community having an older average age than most other sports, and prevented golf from expanding into a younger demographic. This has caused a divide in the community, creating an opportunity to produce a product that will unify members on and off the course, as well as encouraging new members to feel a sense of comfort when joining a golf club.

Fokus One

Studies have found that cooler colour temperatures can increase productivity whilst warmer colours promote relaxation and comfort. This is vital information when choosing desk lights for home offices, as many of these spaces are multifunctional outside of work hours, which can make separating work from leisure very difficult. The Fokus One lamp aims to assist in making this separation by allowing users to physically place the shade (combined with a diffuser) onto the lamp, which attaches effortlessly using magnets, automatically fading the colour temperature from cool to warm white. The placing on of the shade forms an active and purposeful step to move the function of the environment and the lamp from a productivity focus with harsh white lighting, to a relaxing ambience with warm, diffused lighting. The Fokus One takes inspiration from both Japanese and Scandinavian design principles. Japanese design places a strong emphasis on meticulous craftsmanship and attention to detail, whilst Scandinavian design promotes values of minimalism, functionality, and timelessness. These principles are evidenced in the precision CNC?d solid steel joint, uniquely turned Japanese cypress wooden light source housing, and simple single-dial interface that allows for both brightness and colour temperature control when pushed.
