BA Product Design
Felicity Robinson
I aim to create both aesthetic and functional products that users can have an emotional connection to. I am excited to grow as a designer in a creative industry and develop products that inspire positive change.
Arne
'Trend or Timeless' was the subject of my Thesis, investigating the impact of Mid-Century Modernism in the design world, alongside the popularity of vinyl format audio. This area of design was already a personal favourite of mine, but since researching the movement more extensively for this submission, my love for the design style has only grown. I think that the passion and creativity of Mid-Century Designers was translated into beautiful products and careful craftmanship that stand the test of time, with Scandinavian furniture designers such as Arne Jacobsen being a huge inspiration into this product. Throughout the process of designing this product, manufacture and materials remained at the forefront, as it was of huge importance to me that this item challenged throw-away culture, to create a quality product that could be handed down generationally. Vinyl seemed to go hand in hand with Mid-Century Design during my research, being another generational passion that can be handed down, just like my parents gifted their collection to me. I wanted to ensure that these precious possessions could be stored and displayed in such a way, that made it easy for new vinyl consumers to begin their journey, keeping them safe and secure in a beautiful, purposeful space.
Circa
Circa mimics the sun in real-time to bring users a colour-changing mood lamp that utilises our circadian rhythms and the patterns of the sun to aid productivity, sleep and relaxation. Users will wake up to a simulated sunrise, gradually and naturally preparing them for the day. Circa will then follow the sun?s cycle and begin to bring daylight colours into the home, improving productivity and daily routine, ideal for home workers. Towards the end of the day, imitated sunset means users will slowly be encouraged to wind down and rest. Over time, this will lead to sleep becoming more regulated.
