BA Furniture & Product Design
Harry Mawdsley
I thrive on exploring the symbiotic relationship between diverse materials and pushing the boundaries of creativity. Central to my approach is an emphasis on enhancing user-product interaction, recognising that the more engaging and intuitive the experience, the deeper the connection forged with the product.
LevitaLux
LevitaLux is a floor lamp that stands tall, showcasing a striking arrangement of light shades and a table, all seemingly defying gravity through magnetic repulsion. My goal was to combine light and movement, as I have a deep admiration for lighting and the effects it can have on a room and the user, while movement can be hypnotic and an escape from the real world. LevitaLux not only mesmerises with its levitating shades, but also surprises with kinetic movement. With no friction hindering their rotation, the shades spin gracefully, adding a dynamic dimension to the ambiance they create. LevitaLux is not just a lighting fixture, but a statement piece that transforms any room into a mesmerising sanctuary of light, blending modern sophistication with a touch of magic.
Orbit
Orbit is an interactive and playful piece of tableware inspired by the rich Italian heritage of Magis. As family is held at the heart of Italian culture, I decided to create a product that encouraged users to share food with their close family and friends around the table, which would, in-turn, promote strong and healthy relationships between them. The emphasis on interactivity and enjoyment in its use was paramount to me, as I firmly believe that a product becomes a cherished part of daily life when the user finds joy in its functionality. During the project, I aimed to use sustainable materials such as beech wood and steel, combined with the craftsmanship of wood turning. This deliberate choice ensured that the materials and processes aligned seamlessly with the principles of the circular economy.
