BA Furniture & Product Design
Isabelle Collinson
I am a designer who aims to enhance the character and beauty of everyday products. I believe the objects we own are a reflection of who we are and, therefore, a celebration of our experiences and beliefs. I take inspiration from designers and artists, exploring ideas through model-making, sketching and collage.
Florere
Lighting has the ability to combine art with practicality as it turns a room into an atmospheric space. The Florere collection aims to have a warm and characterful presence when illuminated or switched off. Its bold appearance and distinctive design are both expressive as well as functional.
The collection is inspired by the stages of life, celebrating each stage through form, light, and woven textiles. I wanted to create a collection that allows each life stage to be recognised and celebrated.
The leading light is the golden XL floor light, which depicts the middle-age era. Middle-age is recognised across multiple beliefs and literature as the golden era of life filled with wisdom, peace and experience.
The supporting lights represent infancy, young adulthood, and old age, all of which are inspired by one another while introducing a different functional product and light experience.
This project placed a great emphasis on model-making. This enabled me to understand light quality, experiment with scale and form, as well as improve my skills and process surrounding weaving, exploring different colour and texture combinations.
Dais
Everyone has a dippy egg story, a breakfast enjoyed by many. The act of making and eating a dippy egg is a ritual that has been shared across generations. Dais has been designed to celebrate and adultify the dippy egg experience and enhance the moments that come from every day activities.
The product is made up of an aluminium anodised brass finished egg cup, 4 marble beads that can be rearranged by the user and an American walnut wooden board with a rippled detailed top to collect the crumbs and elevate the toast from the board.
