BA Product Design
Lucas Culff
As a hands-on designer that pushes for sustainable design, I especially enjoy material-led projects which involve creating new sustainable material alternatives. I also take inspiration from the multi-sensory design practice and how considering these in the design process, can create better overall products and experiences for the user.
HANGERIFIC
HANGERIFIC is a range of clothing hangars that are composed of up-cycled polyester textile fibres, originating from unwanted old clothing, normally destined for landfill. The up-cycling of these fibres aims to address the rapidly increasing problem of synthetic textile waste, created by the fast-fashion industry. Upcycling the waste into a useful application, such as coat hangers for the industry, can help offset the impact of the waste it produces.
The products target the retail clothing sector of fast fashion. If large fast-fashion brands used these sustainable hangers in their stores rather than virgin plastic hangers, it may encourage the implementation of more sustainable practices within the industry. The application of recycled materials would spread awareness both to the brands and to the consumers about the problem of synthetic textile waste.
