BSc Product Design

Matt North

My love for design came from the knowledge of how things work. I have always enjoyed the technical side within design and how to incorporate new technologies to push my solutions even further. Hands on design has always been my approach to projects so I love to get practical with my process to ensure I am fully understanding the challenges at hand.

Tabi

Tabi is a travel product designed to enhance your solo travelling experience by allowing you to create your own community of likeminded individuals while also expanding your horizons while travelling to new locations. The product works by having a visual wearable the users wear to highlight that they are part of the overall community and open to meeting new people. If two users both using the Tabi solution meet, they can tap their wearables together to unlock further features within the app. Before connecting bands, the app can be used to join communities of travellers, explore local recommendations and more. Once connected the app becomes more of a social space where you can message and communicate freely with your connections, see their current travel locations and even plan trips together. This solution allows the user to feel much safer when travelling and more at ease when meeting new people.

HikeSafe

HikeSafe is a hiking product designed to keep hikers new and experienced safe when off the grid. This idea took influence from the massive uptake of hiking around the world during the Covid pandemic, leaving many new hikers exploring unprepared and in danger of injuries. This product attaches to the bottom of the users walking pole and is charged by the regular swinging motion of the pole when walking meaning the product will always be monitoring your movements. The device is collecting your GPS locations throughout your exploration at regular intervals for if the user has a fall or injury and is unable to walk they can activate the GPS within the device which sends their path and current location to Search & Rescue for a swift and safe extraction.
