BA Furniture & Product Design
Will Cannell
With the design projects I undertake, I choose to focus on users and their interactions. Growing up surrounded by mid-century design has given me an appreciation for the fine balance between elegance and simplicity, something I try to emulate in my own work.
Willow
A new and unique lighting solution, the Willow lamp lends emphasis within a room to a floral display; when used with a bouquet of cut flowers it lights the arrangement, allowing them to be enjoyed throughout the day, no matter the external lighting conditions. When flowers are not present the bulb is lowered into the vase, illuminating it and dousing the room in an ambient glow, taking on the characteristics of the vase. Willow allows the user to maximise their enjoyment of a flower display, casting shadows on the petals that add further beauty to the precious flowers. Illuminating the bouquet allows the user to enjoy the limited life of cut flowers to their full potential.
Dieci Record Storage
Dieci is a new record storage solution designed with the interaction between user and music at its heart. Whereas traditional record storage options are closed off and distant, Dieci centres on inviting touch as the user flips through a short-list of up to 10 curated records, mimicking the experience of the record shop. Designed with the modern living room in mind, it can either tuck under a sofa arm or be left as a free standing object, on display for inhabitants of the space. Dieci brings the record selection and listening experience into the centre of the home as a re-emerging form of media.
